I'm looking a sprinters, but this probably applies to any vehicle 2500 vs 3500 (dually), what are the pro's and cons to using a 3500 instead of a 2500? From the research I've done it sounds like the Pros to a 3500 are carying a heavy payload, but the Cons are worse MPG, having more tires to change so higher maintenance cost, and larger wheel wells taking up more interior space.
Has anyone had experience with a converted 3500 in the snow? Do you need to put chains on all 4 tires?
Are there any other pros and cons to using a 3500 for a camper van conversion? Seems like its overkill in most situations.
I've found a local (Central California) 2006 Sprinter with a High Roof and 140WB which is exactly what I want but its a 3500. It's got 245k miles and looks to be in good shape and they're asking $7.5K. I've seen many of high roof extended WB and regular roof with the 140WB but very few with the 140WB and a high roof. I've only been searching for a month so I might just have to keep waiting till the right van pops up, but I also don't want to let a good one pass by. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated!
